Colorado Office of the Child's Representative - Applications Open for New Contractors

View Announcement HERE

I’m writing to let you know that the Office of the Child’s Representative (OCR) is now accepting applications statewide for contract attorneys to represent children and youth in Colorado legal proceedings.

The OCR is a state agency that oversees Guardian ad litem (best interests) attorney services in dependency and neglect, juvenile delinquency, truancy, paternity, and other proceedings, as well as Counsel for Youth (client-directed) attorney services for youth 12 and older in dependency and neglect and foster youth in transition proceedings. In all models of representation, our attorneys strive to empower youth, elevate youth voice in proceedings, and advocate for equity and justice to ensure an equitable process.

Whether appointed as a Guardian ad Litem or Counsel for Youth, attorneys who contract with the OCR obtain comprehensive support, including guidance from a mentor, a robust training program, a range of concrete legal and social science resources, and a variety of other litigation services. Even if your bar association members do not have experience in child welfare law, the array of support provided can give them the tools to become effective litigators in this field.

More importantly, attorneys who contract with OCR have a wonderful opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young people.

We will be accepting applications throughout March, and you can learn more and apply by visiting https://coloradochildrep.org/contact/#get-involved. I have also attached our application announcement to this email.

Please spread the word to others in your network and bar association about this wonderful opportunity to take part in this worthwhile work.

If you have any questions about our office, our work, or anything else, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know.

"I don't know what I would do without her as my attorney. She would make sure to check how I was feeling about it, always thought about how I felt." - Youth quote about an OCR Attorney

Thank you!
